Abstract

Resveratrol (RSV) is a polyphenol compound that has been known to have antioxidant activity. However, the weakness of RSV, which has low solubility and is sensitive to light, is a limitation to be developed as a topical product. Therefore, modification of the delivery system, such as Nanostructured Lipid Carrier (NLCs), is needed to overcome this. This study aims to determine the effect of the ratio of PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate (GC) and Tween 20 surfactants on the physical characteristics of the RSV NLC system. In this study, the RSV NLC system was made using the High Shear Homogenization (HSH) Method with PEG-7 GC and Tween 20 surfactants in three formulas, F1 (3:9), F2 (3:12), and (3:15), and then the physical characteristics of the RSV NLC system were tested, including organoleptic, emulsion type, pH, viscosity, particle size, polydispersity index (PDI), zeta potential (ZP). The results of the physical characteristics test obtained showed that all formulas met the skin pH range. The highest viscosity sequence is (853.33 ± 20.81 nm) > F2 (793.33 ± 20.81 nm) > F1 (713.33 ± 61.10 nm). The largest particle size is F3 (308.55 ± 11.66) > F2 (270.1 ± 18.95) > F1 (216.05 ± 8.98), PDI F3 (0.26 ± 0.00) > F2 (0.25 ± 0.03) > F1 (0.22 ± 0.04). From these results it is known that the surfactant ratio affects the physical characteristics of NLC RSV.
