This study aims to uncover the role of the Jatiwangi Art Factory community in building ecological awareness among citizens through a local arts and culture approach. This study uses a qualitative approach and employs a case study method with data collection techniques through interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The results show that the Jatiwangi Art Factory community has succeeded in building citizen participation in various environmental programs, one of which is through the Perhutana program initiative, namely a program on environmental awareness that will create a collective forest covering 8 hectares managed cooperatively by residents. The Perhutana program implemented by Jatiwangi Art Factory uses a land plot buying and selling method, which will eventually plant trees based on land plots is expected to encourage residents to be actively involved in responding to ecological issues critically and creatively. All of these activities reflect a contextual and practice-based civic education process at the community level. This study recommends the need to strengthen the role of local communities in civic education, particularly through an arts, culture, and local wisdom-based approach that can bridge ecological awareness with community civic identity.
