Candidiasis caused by Candida albicans is a common health problem in tropical regions. The prolonged use of synthetic antifungal agents may lead to resistance, highlighting the need for effective natural alternatives. Curry leaves (Murraya koenigii (L) Spreng) are known to contain flavonoids and alkaloids with potential antifungal activity. This study aimed to evaluate the antifungal activity of the 96% ethanol extract of curry leaves against Candida albicans ATCC 14503. The extract was prepared by maceration using 96% ethanol as the solvent. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids and saponins. The antifungal activity was tested using the disc diffusion method at concentrations of 6,25%, 12,5%, 25%, and 50%. Ketoconazole was used as positive control, while 96% ethanol served as a negative control. The test was performed in triplicate, and the inhibition zones were measured and averaged. The results showed that the 96% ethanol extract of curry leaves at all tested concentrations did not exhibited antifungal activity against C. albicans as indicated by the absence of inhibition zones on the media. It can be concluded that the extract, under the given conditions, was not effective in inhibiting fungal growth. This suggests that the extraction method and tested concentrations may not have been sufficient to isolate or concentrate the active compounds. Further studies using alternative extraction techniques, higher concentrations or isolated compounds are needed to better evaluate the antifungal potential of M. koenigii.
Putri Eka Sari, Pra Panca Bayu Chandra, Nia Lisnawati, Neng Ami Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1400 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:20:33 +0000 POTENSI ANTIINFLAMASI SENYAWA BIOAKTIF DARI SYZYGIUM MYRTIFOLIUM: STUDI MOLECULAR DOCKING BERTARGET COX-2 https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1404
Chronic inflammation contributes significantly to various degenerative diseases, with Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) being a central target for anti-inflammatory drug development. Syzygium myrtifolium, a native Indonesian plant, is known to contain a variety of bioactive compounds with pharmacological potential. This study aims to investigate the anti-inflammatory activity of S. myrtifolium active compounds on COX-2 using a molecular docking approach. The tested compounds include avicularin, betulinic acid, ursolic acid, and two flavanones modeled and docked against the COX-2 protein (PDB ID: 5F19) using YASARA. Docking simulations were performed using YASARA software via a blind docking method and visualized through Discovery Studio. The results revealed that four compounds demonstrated stronger binding affinity than celecoxib, with (2S)-7-Hydroxy-5-methoxy-6,8-dimethylflavanone showing the most stable interaction with 9.0450 kcal/mol binding energy. Toxicity prediction suggests these compounds are generally safe based on LD50 values and toxicity class. These findings support the potential of S. myrtifolium as a natural source of COX-2 inhibitors.
Refsya Azanti Putri, Muhammad Yogi Saputra, Nia Natalia Enggelina, Liska Windasari, Atthar Luqman Ivansyah Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1404 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:23:06 +0000 UJI KUALITATIF BAHAN PENYUSUN SEDIAAN MIKROSFER BSA DENGAN KITOSAN DAN NA-TPP https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1394
This study aims to evaluate the qualitative characteristics of the components used in a protein delivery system based on microspheres, namely Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA), chitosan, sodium tripolyphosphate (Na-TPP), and maltodextrin, through organoleptic examination, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), and Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA). Organoleptic observations confirmed that all materials met standard physical characteristics as described in recent literature. FTIR spectra of BSA revealed the presence of amide I and II bands, indicating the preservation of its secondary protein structure. Chitosan exhibited functional groups capable of forming ionic crosslinks with TPP, essential in microsphere formation. The FTIR spectrum of TPP showed characteristic P=O and P–O–P absorption bands, confirming its role in ionic gelation. Maltodextrin displayed hydroxyl and carbonyl groups, supporting its function as a stabilizer in the formulation. DTA results demonstrated that all materials possess adequate thermal stability to withstand the formulation process. These findings suggest that the combination of BSA, chitosan, Na-TPP, and maltodextrin is compatible and effective in developing a stable microsphere-based protein delivery system, both in terms of chemical structure and thermal behavior.
Rifka Anggraini Anggai, Faradila Ratu Cindana Mo’o Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1394 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:25:12 +0000 SURVEI ETNOFARMAKOGNOSI DAN PROFIL KIMIA DARI 33 TUMBUHAN OBAT DI PURWAKARTA, INDONESIA https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1384
Traditional medicine practices in Indonesia have long utilised medicinal plants as the main foundation for public health resilience. This research aims to document local knowledge of medicinal plant usage and analyse its chemical profile to strengthen the scientific validity of traditional utilisation by the Purwakarta community. The methods used include ethnopharmacognosy surveys through semi-structured interviews with snowball sampling technique, specimen collection and identification, phytochemical screening of six groups of bioactive compounds, and qualitative-quantitative data analysis (UV, FUV, RFC, FL). The results show that there are 33 species of medicinal plants used by the communities of Taringgul Tonggoh and Wanasari villages, with leaves being the most utilised part (91% of oral usage). The Zingiberaceae family dominates the utilisation, while flavonoids and tannins were detected in the highest amounts in the phytochemical screening, supporting empirical claims as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial agents. These findings demonstrate the consistency between traditional practices and pharmacological potential, while also filling the gap in ethnopharmacognosy documentation in Purwakarta. The implications of this study strengthen the scientific basis for integrating local knowledge into modern pharmacy and open up opportunities for the development of phytopharmaceuticals based on local biodiversity.
Lia Fikayuniar, Ermi Abriyani, Dewi Yunita Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1384 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:28:42 +0000 STUDI PELAPORAN KEJADIAN NYARIS CEDERA (KNC) DI INSTALASI FARMASI RAWAT JALAN RUMAH SAKIT DI KARAWANG TAHUN 2017 https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1379
Pelaporan keselamatan pasien pada pelayanan kefarmasian dititikberatkan pada KNC yang menjadi aspek penting dalam menunjang keselamatan pasiend engan mengurangi terjadinya medication error. This topic is of particular importance globally given the rapid increase in the elderly population susceptible to postoperative complications, as well as the variability of the existing evidence regarding the effectiveness and optimal duration of prophylactic antibiotics. Although many studies have been conducted, there has not been a comprehensive synthesis of recent evidence to fill the gap. This study, which is a systematic review based on the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, analyzes articles from the Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar databases (2020-2025). The study involved 31 articles that met the inclusion criteria, including retrospective observational studies and randomized clinical trials, with the primary outcomes of postoperative infections and antibiotic-related side effects. The analysis method includes evaluation of the quality of the study as well as narrative and quantitative synthesis. The results showed that the administration of prophylactic antibiotics appropriately significantly reduced the risk of infection, especially in high-risk surgeries such as colorectal, orthopedic, and cardiothoracic, with an optimal duration of about 24 hours postoperatively. The risk of antibiotic resistance and opportunistic infections remains a major concern. The practical implications demand the development of evidence-based guidelines with adjustments to the duration of administration and the strengthening of alternative prevention strategies. Advanced research with a multicenter randomized clinical trial design is essential to optimize prophylactic regimens in diverse and complex elderly populations.
Ricky Aditya Syam Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1351 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:32:44 +0000 UJI ANTIBAKTERI EKSTRAK BATANG GAHARU (Aquilaria malaccensis) BERBASIS KOLIN KLORIDA:ASAM SITRAT TERHADAP Bacillus cereus dan Shigella dysenteriae https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1396
Infections caused by Bacillus cereus and Shigella dysenteriae are serious health problems as they can lead to gastrointestinal disorders and contribute to the emergence of antibiotic resistance. One potential strategy to overcome this challenge is the discovery of new antibacterial agents derived from natural sources, such as agarwood (Aquilaria malaccensis). This study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of gaharu stem extract using a Natural Deep Eutectic Solvent (NADES) composed of choline chloride and citric acid through the Ultrasound Assisted Extraction (UAE) method. The antibacterial assay was performed using the disc diffusion method with various NADES ratios (1:1, 2:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, and 4:1 g/g), with chloramphenicol as the positive control and 10% DMSO as the negative control. The results indicated that the NADES extract with a 1:4 g/g ratio produced the largest inhibition zones against Bacillus cereus and Shigella dysenteriae. Moreover, the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) test showed that the 1:4 NADES extract effectively inhibited bacterial growth at a concentration of 30%. These findings suggest that gaharu stem extract prepared with NADES is a promising, eco-friendly, and potent antibacterial agent.
Nahrul Hasan, Sri Marlina, Ayu Amelia, Ghalib Syukrillah Syahputra, Diani Mega Sari Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1396 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:34:25 +0000 ARTIKEL REVIEW : AKTIVITAS ANTIOKSIDAN BUNGA MAWAR MERAH (Rosa damascene Mill.) https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1403
Red rose (Rosa damascena Mill.) is an ornamental plant that is rich in bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, anthocyanins, phenols, vitamin C, tannins, and saponins that function as natural antioxidants. The results showed that most of the red rose flower extracts showed very strong antioxidant activity, characterized by IC₅₀ values < 50 ppm, even in some studies reaching < 20 µg/mL. Antioxidant activity is influenced by the type of solvent, temperature and processing time, as well as the combination of ingredients such as bengkoang or mint leaves. Polar extracts such as ethanol and methanol tend to give the best results, while high temperature treatment and long heating times tend to reduce the effectiveness of active compounds. Thus, rose red flowers have great potential as a source of natural antioxidants that can be utilized in functional food, cosmetic, and pharmaceutical products.
Dian Ayu Oktavia, Bella Fevi Aristia, Kadeq Novita Prajawanti Copyright (c) 2025 Jurnal Buana Farma https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1403 Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:36:09 +0000 EKSPLORASI AKTIVITAS HEPATOPROTEKTIF EKSTRAK ETANOL TEMU KUNCI (Boesenbergia rotunda) MELALUI PARAMETER MAKROPATOLOGI ORGAN HATI DAN INDEKS ORGAN PADA MODEL HEPATOTOKSISITAS TIKUS https://journal.ubpkarawang.ac.id/mahasiswa/index.php/buanafarma/article/view/1380
Hati merupakan organ paling berperan dalam mayoritas sistem metabolisme pada tubuh.
