Abstract

Infectious diseases are caused by pathogenic microorganisms, one of which is Staphylococcus aureus, which often infects wounds and slows down the healing process. Kenikir leaves contain flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, alkaloids, tannins, and essential oils that have antibacterial potential. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial activity and wound healing effect of extracts and fractions of Kenikir leaves based on differences in polarity. This research is a laboratory experiment. Extraction was carried out by maceration method using 96% ethanol for 5x24 hours, then fractionated using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. The antibacterial test was conducted using the disc diffusion method, while wound healing was observed by measuring wound length on days 1, 3, and 7. The positive control used Mupirocin ointment, and the negative control used DMSO. Data were analyzed by Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene homogeneity test, and One Way ANOVA test with post hoc LSD and Kruskal-Wallis with post hoc Mann Whitney, followed by Pearson correlation test. The results showed that the extract and ethyl acetate fraction had antibacterial activity and accelerated wound healing significantly. The correlation test showed a very strong relationship, where the higher the antibacterial activity, the faster the wound healing process.
